Canada’s regulatory bodies for the teaching profession
The participating provincial and territorial regulatory bodies for the teaching profession retain exclusive jurisdiction for determining an applicant’s eligibility to teach.
The following is a list of websites for each provincial and territorial regulatory body for the teaching profession.
Members of Pathways to Teach Canada
Each site provides information on the specific requirements for obtaining certification to teach in the selected province or territory in Canada.
To get certified, it may be necessary to obtain a work permit first in some provinces and territories. Please review the specific requirements of the province or territory where you are considering applying for certification.
British Columbia
You are required to take the credential assessment via Pathways to apply to BC. Proof of language proficiency in French or in English will be required to obtain certification in BC.

If you wish to get certified in Ontario, you CANNOT take the credential assessment via Pathways since the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) relies on internal credential assessment, and does not accept translations or credential assessments from any third-party assessment organizations. The OCT accepts the LCAPT, among other language competency assessments.
