Language Competency Assessment for the Teaching Profession (LCATP)
The LCATP is a test that comprises four one-hour-long online modules, which assess your writing, reading, listening, and speaking skills.
The test is powered by XpressLab software, is available in either English or French, and is proctored remotely in real-time by Managexam.
To obtain certification, internationally educated teachers (IETs) must demonstrate language competency by providing either an acceptable LCATP result in English or French or evidence of completion of a teacher education program in English or French.
If your teacher education was not in English or French, you must take the LCATP to demonstrate your language competency.
• The test provides an assessment of your language proficiency in an environment specific to teaching.
• The test does not assess an applicant’s knowledge of a specific teaching subject.
You can review the LCATP test-taker guide to help you better understand the LCATP structure, expectations, and process.
